Work in Progress
and a bit of
Elderberry Jelly!

My daughter couldn't possibly be any happier than when she is helping me in the kitchen to create something scrumptious!
This weekend, while waiting for a supply of wool felt to finish a darling bear, I took a break from bear making to replenish our supply of home cooked Elderberry Jelly. From our stash of frozen fresh picked berries from last summer, we plucked a few bags from the freezer and made up some yummy, sticky jelly!

My daughter's job was to strain all the big chewy seeds from these fat berries once they were cooked down to a juice. Boy, did she take this job seriously!

I just love the rich purple color of this fragrant jelly! It is so sweet and so sticky...the kids can hardly wait for the jars to cool and seal before popping one open to make a big peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

Aww, yes. On Monday morning my waiting pays off and the most beautiful golden sand wood felt arrives in the mail. The beauty of this wool never fails to amaze me.

This wool is imported from Great Britain and is actually used for spinners to make yarn. I love it because it is so super soft and I can order it in bulk instead of by the ounce.

Looks like your daughter was having a ball! Wonder what colour mohair would turn out dyed with Elderberries...have you tried it Tomi?

Hahaha, funny you ask....I have tried it...although the seeds were strained, it was difficult to get the granules out of the mohair...even after washing it...there were specs I couldn't get out of it :( I found that beet juice was a great alternative and very similar in color!!
